How to motivate farmers to do organic farming?
Generally, farmers also know that organic farming is the basic principle of agriculture, but with the increasing population, the demand for production is also increasing day by day, farmers today have switched to commercial farming and adopting modern methods of chemical farming.
Why is organic farming considered good?
Farmers have to invest less in cultivation and do not have to buy expensive chemical fertilizers, and another advantage is that all the produce is without adulterated chemical fertilizer, which does not harm human health at all and also is good for the environment. This is not the only two benefits of organic farming alone, it has many other benefits about which farmers should aware: -
Organic farming improves the health of the soil, so that the microbes that grow in it help the plants to make their food.
Organic manure can we prepared in farm itself thus, this saves the money of farmers and minimize the income.
The production of organic manure will increase employment opportunities, especially in rural areas where unemployment remains a major problem.
Organic farming makes the soil porous and increases its water holding capacity i.e due to which the water remains present in the soil for a long time and crops does not require repeated irrigation.
Along with reducing the amount of cost incurred in agriculture, it also leads us towards Sustainable Agriculture means agriculture by minimum and efficiency use of natural resources and saving them for our future generations.
The use of chemical fertilizers also has a huge impact on the ground water present in our soil, which can be reduced to a greater extent by organic farming.
By doing organic farming, soil erosion can also be reduced.
What can the general public do?
Buy goods directly from farmers as much as possible,
The money you pay to buy goods kept in big department stores in which they only sells it with a fixed price tag, packing charge, and preservatives. You give that money directly to the farmer, from which you will get fresh produce without preservatives, and the money will go directly to the farmer.
Don't bargain with farmers.
In order to encourage organic farming, the government has also come out with many schemes, some of which are presented to you:
National Program for Organic Production : - The scheme is accredited by the certification agency Jai Yojana and was established in 2001 with the primary goal of promoting organic farming.
Parampara Gat Krashi Vikas Yojya : - Under this scheme, groups of farmers were formed to promote organic farming. Each farmer was given the sum of ₹ 20000 per acre for 3 years, so that, he can do all the work from sowing to the harvesting of seeds. As well as the cost of transporting their products was also included in this.
