Sustainability agriculture means to meet the food and textile needs to present societies , without compromising the abilities of future generation.
Word origin, and meaning :-
Therefore , the 'sustain' word is derived from the Latin word 'sustinere'Sus - means "from below"
tinere - means "to hold"
Together it means - long term support or performance.
It enables higher resource efficiency :-
1. By applying less input of land, water and energy to produce grater agricultural output.
Main goals of Sustainable Agriculture :-
• To gain good environmental health• To gain economic profitability
• To maintain economic and social equality
These 3 main goals are integrated by sustainable agriculture.
As we know India comes under the developing countries list. So it is very challenging and tough course to empower sustainability especially in agriculture sector, where naturally more than 70% farmers are uneducated and perform ancient practices for crop cultivation.
In the race of sustainability our India may again become 1 No. because there are many evidence which prove that organic farming is native of India, but with the inception of Green Revolution in 1966 have taken a backseat. However, it was necessary at that period of time. But it doesn't mean that we should step back to conventional agriculture.
Actually we should step forward to conservation agriculture.
i.e to utilize soil for production with the aim of reducing excessive disturbance and maintaining crop residue on the surface of soil in order to minimize damage to environment.
Here are some more benefits which we can get in bonus with sustainably :-
Agronomic benefits :- increments in organic matterEnvironmental benefits :- Reduces soil erosion, good air Quality, improved water quality, and carbon regeneration.
Economic benefits :- low labor coast, less input-output ratio , low fuel cost.
Sustainability and all above mentioned benefits can be achieved by some principles of conservational agriculture like Minimum Tillage = Minimum soil disturbance, Permanent soil cover with crop residues and live mulches, Crop rotation and inter cropping.
Hence we can conclude that :-
To have agriculture in sustainable saturation point, all the other sectors should have to be united and integrate with several bonds, rules and regulations to conserve National Resources for the future generations. And help the farmers to adopt balanced practices for cultivation and production. On the other hand agribusiness should also be supervised so that wastage , pricing and economic cycle can be maintained.
IT sector for support via news , research and innovation of Modern technologies to aware and help our farmers.
