Why do Indian people not wish to become farmers?
Every father wants his children to be more successful than him and does not bear all the grief that his father has seen in his lifetime. This is also the mindset of the farmer. Why would a farmer want to make his son a farmer because he knows how much a farmer has to struggle.
Apart from this, there are some other points which justifies this : -
Before 2001 farming was not as profitable and neither the good and improved tools associated with agriculture were developed
Rain was also irregular
Everyone used to plant the same type of crop
No more fertilizers of high quality were available by the government and the dealer.
Subsidies were also not available in agricultural materials,
Brokers used to buy all the produce of the farmers at very low prices and sell it in the market at high prices.
The farmers of our country have seen everything from the drastic weather beats to the overthrow of the government, farmer of our country will do farming but he would never want his son to grow up as a farmer because the sorrow he has seen in his life ,not wants his son to see the same !
Every year in India ,about 1200000 students graduates and approximately 80% of them remain unemployed, even then none of them wants to make agriculture their career.
Scientists have agreed that all things can be done inside the laboratory, but the process of photosynthesis can never be done and until such technology comes to us then we will have to remain dependent on agriculture. We don't have any choice, and we can't ignore it.
We need to change the outlook and mentality of the youth of our country.
Everyone needs one day off in a week, needs summer vacation and wants to relax whenever they want. Which is not possible for a farmer, the farmer works seven days and 12 months and 24 hours.
You tell me ? who would want to wake up at 4:30am early in the morning, wake up, milch cows, goats and after breakfast go back to the field do ploughing, sow seeds, apply fertilizers, etc.
There is no such proper policy which ensures Farmers to get pension after retirement from farming.
Let us understand this a little more closely by an example, suppose there is a farmer who planted an onion crop with a cost of ₹ 6000, after 3 months when he harvested and sold that crop, he got ₹ 24000 from the market.
24000 ₹ - 6000 ₹ (Cost Amount) = 18000 ₹
18000 ₹ - 8000 ₹ (Cost of next crop)
= 10,000 ₹
Only ₹ 10,000 after 3 months of hard work?
Sudden disasters like excessive rain, irregular rain, drought, flooding, pest attack, unavailability of right fertilizers at the right time, not getting the optimum rate in the market - all these fears take away a person from agriculture. (Risk x 100)
This is the reason why people do not want to become farmers today and prefer to live by doing small jobs or own business.
